Why can’t I fill in my birthdate?

Our system will not allow you to enter a date in the future, so even if you are just changing the day for now and planning on changing the year after, if today is the 20th and you were born on the 10th (for example) you will need to change the year first to make sure that the date is always in the past, otherwise the numbers will keep reverting to today’s date. We are working on changing this to make it easier!

Do I need to fill in all my details?

You don’t need to, but the more information you complete in your profile the more we can personalise your experience. We can show you articles and recipes and products that are relevant to your situation and so the more you put into Careology, the more you will get from us.

Why do you need to know my diagnosis/ personal information

Some of the information helps us to offer you a personalised experience, such as showing you symptom specific articles and products. However some of the information means that we can give you the right information at the right time, for example giving you your hospital’s out-of-hours number right when you need it. Also if you need healthcare and are not able to visit your regular healthcare team you will be able to provide them with all of the relevant information in one place.

I haven't received my text code

Please contact us on support@careology.health

How do i invite a caregiver

Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top left corner of your screen. Once the menu appears click on “my network”, then select “caregivers”. At the bottom of the screen you will see a button “Invite Caregiver”, click this button and enter your caregiver’s mobile number. They will then receive a text with instructions on how to proceed.

Medication

How do I add medication?

Using the menu at the bottom of the app navigate to “Medication”. If you already have medication in your schedule for today it will be displayed at the top of the page in “Today’s Medication”, if not then this block will appear empty. In the block directly below “Today’s Medication” you will see the heading “Medication” and a “+” sign to the right of this. Click on the + to begin adding your medication. Once you do this you will be taken to a different screen called “Add Medication”.

Medication names and doses are complicated, how do i make sure i get it right?

Once you start typing the name of the medication you will be offered a list of autocomplete options so that you don’t have to type in long and complicated medication names - just the first few letters. Once you have selected the name of your medication you will then be offered a list of appropriate strengths to choose from, and a quantity. We have made it as easy as possible for you to complete.

How do I create a Medication schedule?

The same is true for setting your schedule, we have made it as easy as possible for you. We have set up options for how often you need to take your medication, just click on one, or create your own by clicking on the days of the week.

Why should I set medication reminders?

Medicine works better when it is taken as prescribed. You should have clear instructions on how much and when to take your medication. You need to take the exact dosage, at the exact right time, for exactly as long as you’re supposed to do so in order for it to work as it is supposed to. Treatment plans are set up so that the right level of drug stays in your body to do its job. Not taking your chemo the right way can affect how well it works. Taking too much or not enough medicine may reduce its effectiveness and could be dangerous. Sometimes dose changes are needed, but don’t make any changes unless your doctor tells you to do so. If you miss a dose or are late taking one, tell your doctor or nurse about it. They need to know about this when deciding if treatment is working. It may also help the doctor decide whether to change how much of the medicine you take or when you take it.

Make sure you follow the instructions given by your care team.

How do I mark a medication as taken?

Click on the round button on the right hand side of the medication on the medication schedule

How do I delete a medication I’ve added by mistake/change the times of my medication I’ve added?

Use the menu at the bottom of your dashboard/ home screen to navigate to the medication tab. If you cannot see the medication you would like to edit in your schedule (2nd block down on your screen) then click on A-Z LIST to toggle across and find the medication you are looking for. Once found, click on it. You will be taken to a page of details for this particular medication and in the top right corner of the screen you will see an “Edit” button. Click on this and you will be able to edit any of the details, name, strength, frequency etc. once you have edited the appropriate details scroll to the bottom og=f the screen and click the “save” button. If you simply wish to delete the entire medication then scroll to the very bottom of the page and you will find a red “delete” button, click on this (don’t worry, if you click on it by accident, as you will be asked if you are sure… click “delete” to confirm or “cancel” to keep the medication and return to the edit page.

Symptoms

How do I add a symptom?

You can add a symptom either from the Dashboard (home screen) or within the symptoms page itself by simply clicking on the grey “+” symbol next to the word symptoms.

You will then be taken to a list of symptoms, click on the one that is relevant to your current situation and then use the slider to set the intensity of what you are experiencing. You must always scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “update button”. You can also add in notes on this page. If you are adding or updating a symptom rather than removing it, once you have clicked “update” you will be taken to a page where you will be asked to confirm the change you have just made, please click the “confirm” button at the bottom of the page. If you miss either the “update” or “confirm” step your changes will not be saved. The symptoms will remain in the app until you change them.

How do I remove a symptom?

You can remove a symptom either by clicking on the one you wish to remove as it appears on your dashboard (home screen) or within the symptoms page itself by using the menu at the bottom of your home screen to navigate there. You will then be taken to a list of symptoms, click on the one that you are no longer experiencing and then use the slider to set the intensity of to “0”. You must always scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “update button” but you will not have to do the extra step of confirming the change.

Why do you only have those symptoms?

For cancer, we use the same symptoms as the UKONS triage tool, which is a widely utilised recognised tool that is used to a perform risk assessment for patients who have :

  • Received systemic anti-cancer therapy including chemotherapy in the previous 6-8 weeks
  • Radiotherapy
  • Disease related immunosuppression

It is a simple reliable evidence based process that grades the toxicities according to the significance of presenting symptoms and advises action accordingly.

What if I am experiencing a different symptom that I would like to record?

The best way of doing this would be to record it using the notes function, if you find that you are consistently experiencing different symptoms to those available in your app please do contact us on hello@careology.health to let us know.

Why has my dashboard changed colour?

Your app changes colour in a traffic light warning depending on the severity of your symptoms. If your app background changes to amber/ orange then you are advised to check in with your healthcare team by contacting your hospital as soon as possible to discuss your symptoms

If your app background changes to red you are advised to contact a medical professional immediately or dial 999 (112 in the EU or 911 in the USA)

I have taken my temperature manually, how do i record it within my app?

Using the menu at the bottom of the app navigate to “symptoms” across the top of the symptoms page you will be able to swipe between three blocks - “Heart Rate”, “Temperature” and “Activity”. Swipe through until you see the temperature block, in the top right corner of that block you will see the word “ADD”. Click on the ADD and you will be able to manually enter your current temperature by typing in the appropriate measurement using your phone’s keypad, then clicking ‘done’ and then clicking the add button that will appear underneath the block showing your temperature.

Why can’t I add my temperature recording?

If the add button is white/ grey and you cannot press it, it means that you simply need to add in the decimal point for your temperature reading - for example if the measurement is 37 degrees you will need to record it as “37.0” the Add button will then appear as a coloured clickable button and will take you back to your symptom screen once you click it.

Notes

How do I add notes?

Use the menu at the bottom of your dashboard/ home screen to navigate to “notes” by clicking on the middle icon. At the top of this page there is a banner “Add new note… +”

Click on this to add a new note. You can include a title and a brief text. You also have the option to add a mood to the note by clicking on one of the facial expressions underneath your note and if you look to the right of the title, you will see a circle with the word “private”. If you would like to keep this note private i.e. not shared with your caregiver, please click on the circle so that a tick icon appears.

Is there a character limit for my notes?

The character limit for the title is 63

How can I delete a note I’ve written?

Deleting a note isn’t possible right now but we will be working on this in the future

Calendar

How do I add an appointment?

Navigate to your calendar using the menu at the bottom of the screen. When you are on the correct page, click on the day you wish to add something to. Directly below the calendar you will see a dropdown menu called “daily average”, and then directly below this you should see the date you have selected with a grey + sign to the right of it. Click on the + and you will be taken to an ‘Add Appointment’ page where you can fill in all the necessary information. Once the submit button at the bottom of the page becomes coloured you can click on it to save the appointment

What do the different colours mean on the calendar?

The different colours on the calendar make it easy for you to refer back to your symptoms and medication. If a day is white it means that nothing happened that day, no meds or symptoms were logged. If a day is highlighted then it works on the same traffic light system as your dashboard. If a day is blue/green then it means that something was logged that day, if it was medication then you took it all on time and if it was a symptom you rated it below the level for concern. If the day is highlighted orange then it means that either your medication is late or you have ranked a symptom at a level that is somewhat concerning and you should be notifying your healthcare team. If a day is highlighted red then it means that you have ranked a symptom at a level which is very concerning, or you have entirely missed a medication. You will have potentially been prompted to call 999. This colour coding of days is a very useful system when you or your healthcare team are looking at how you have been in previous weeks and months.

Pairing my Careology app

Which Activity trackers can i use with Careology

How do i pair my Careology device with Apple Health

This can be done during your onboarding

I didn’t connect my Careology account to Apple Health when i registered and now i’d like to - what do i need to do?

Go into settings on your iPhone, and find ‘Health’. If you click on Data access and devices, under apps you should see Careology, Click on this and allow Careology to read the data.

How can I get a Fever Scout bluetooth thermometer?

Contact us on hello@careology.heath and we will point you in the right direction

Do i need to download the Fever Scout App

You do not need to download the Fever Scout app. If you have a Fever Scout the readings can be managed directly through your Careology app

My Fever Scout patch doesn’t seem to be working

  1. It is normal for it to take a few times to get to normal state from warming state, however the meanings for the state are:
warmingState = 0 means it is warming up
warmingState = 1 means it is not warming up

  2. This message can occur if the patch is out of range of the phone or the charger or the signal is weak or blocked
We can check if this comes up 10 times and then send a message to warn the user

  3. The charger and the patch need to be charged and close together
For the best results, the user needs to have the charger with them at all times (“boosted results”)
Information from Tony of range with / without charger - After the user applies the patch at the right body position, the patch can transmit the signal to the phone and the charger in 1.5 meters. When the charger is in the patch's range, it works as a relay. It receives the signal from the patch and transmits it to the phone within 40 meters in an open area.
The signal may be blocked by clothes, body parts etc if the user does not have the charger near them
The sensor is the end of the patch with the gold on it and this should be under the armpit
The antenna is the other end of the patch and should be out of the armpit
The user should have the charger near them at all times and their arm closed over the patch

Troubleshooting

Why does my app seem to be “read only”, is it broken?

This might have happened through registering a caregiver incorrectly - Please contact us on hello@careology.health, so we can make sure your app versions are registered to the right devices. We just need to ensure that you are running a patient version as opposed to a caregiver version.

Why am I not receiving notifications?

If you have recently reinstalled your Careology app your device may need restarting in order for your notifications to start working again. If this still doesn’t help please contact us on hello@careology.health and we will get it fixed for you.

When should I call my doctor?

You should contact your healthcare team any time you are concerned. Careology offers automated advice based on the symptoms you have recorded. You should contact your healthcare team any time you are advised to by the app, but also any time that you are worried or concerned about something.

Why can’t I get past the T&Cs page, it looks like there should be a submit button but there just isn't?

This sometimes happens when you have large text enabled on your iPhone or iPad. To rectify, please go to your iPhone/iPad Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text and use the slider to turn this function off.

Now please delete and reinstall your Careology app, and you will be able to complete the registration process.

I’m having a technical issue with Careology that I’d like to report, what’s the best way of doing that?

Please get in touch with us via email; support@careology.health. The more information you can send us the better, if you can take a video of the issue you are having then we can be sure we can see everything that's going on.

To make a screen recording, you need to add "Screen Recording" to your Control Centre:

  1. Go to Settings > Control Centre > Customise Controls

  2. Then tap the '+' icon next to Screen Recording

Press record and you'll get a three-second countdown before filming begins. Once that's done, you can record your screen by doing the following:

  1. Open the Control Centre by swiping up from the bottom edge of your screen. On an iPhone X, you'll need to swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen. On an iPad, you can just double-click the Home button

  2. You'll see a new circle icon for screen recording

  3. Tap it and you'll be given a three-second countdown

  4. To capture sound while you record, press deeply on the circle icon and tap Microphone Audio

  5. To stop recording, open the Control Centre and tap the red circle. Alternatively, tap the red status bar at the top of your screen and tap Stop

Once you have finished recording, you should be able to view your footage in your Photos app. If you would prefer not to do this then any information you can provide is useful, screen shots and descriptions that we can pass on to our technical team to make sure that the problem gets resolved as quickly as possible. Please try to include the type of device you are using and the version of the app.

How do I know what version of the app I am using?

To find out what version of the app you are using, please click on the collapsed menu bars (3 lines) in the top left corner or your Careology app. When this menu opens up, the version number will appear at the bottom of the menu, underneath the option to Sign Out.
